"Ricky has always loved animals. After all, he shares his house with twenty-nine weird and wonderful creatures." He also shares his house with his dad and older sister, who doesn't really care for all the animals. Ricky and his best friend Augie don't seem to have a lot in common, but when their favorite teacher's classroom gets vandalized and Mr. Johnston's beloved boa constrictor is killed, the boys work together to raise money to buy another snake. The students and teachers at the school all come through and they raise enough money to buy the snack, but the hardest part is trying to figure out how to get a six-foot snake to the school. (Ages 9-12)
