Lily and Lyle Lemon Liquid
by Maddie
Age 12

Okay kids, I’ve told you this story an infinite number of times before, but here it goes again. It all started in a vending machine, she was Lily the Lemon Liquid. As you know I was also a Lemon Liquid, in other words a stylish can, named Lyle. A few giants with this long stuff on the top of their head, wearing bright pink, came towards the vending machine. They extended out a stick with 5 sausages and pressed the buttons 1 and 2. Lily and I tumbled out and bumped into each other. This caused us both to get dents on the top of our heads. The creatures took us to what seemed to be a giant, brown vending machine. The creatures forgot about us, so a 4-legged, tail wagging, nose sniffing creature played with us like a toy. It rolls us around until it gets wearisome and trots away. Since we were not feeling good we stayed still. Soon a creature with a black and white ball swept us outside into the cordial air. We thought it was going to drink us but what it did was a million, trillion times worse. He picked us up threw us in the air and kicked us up and down. Eventually he kicked us so hard we landed on a tan, sandy place that had a sign. The sign said, “Ft. Lauderdale Beach: be careful of crabs (they pilfer)”. Suddenly a small red object that appeared to be a crab crept slowly towards Lily. I tried to move but I was jammed. It was too late; the crab creature had pinched the lovely, Lily. She burst open like a fountain running over and over again. “No”, I shrieked! I was unexpectedly scooped up by a flying creature. I was taken higher and higher in the air until I plummeted towards the deep, cryptic ocean. “Ouch” I said as I hit a very old ship. I rolled onto the old, creaky wooden floors. I rolled into an open hole in a door that was hanging by a hinge. It was there where I found a large object that had the letters, C-A-T-A-P-U-L-T. I sounded the word out and learned it was a catapult. I remembered learning about these items in Pop Prepatory School. They were use! d in war ships, so they could fling items to demolish other ships. I got on by rolling up a thick piece of string. Then when I was in a little bowl that was where thing should be flung, I cut the string with a piece of my sharp, pop tab. It wretchedly didn’t work. “Just my luck”, I said to myself. As I slowly rolled out of the ship I caught my eye on a slimy, blue creature with a long tail and fins. I asked him if I could have a ride to the shore and he squeaked, “Yes”! I got on and lay peacefully on my back. I was thinking about if Lily would be okay. I drifted asleep thinking about my worries. A few minutes later I was on the sandy, beach. I turned around and saw my dear, Lily. She looked dreadful. I raced over and wrapped Lily up with seaweed to stop her from losing her Lemon Liquid. I made sure she was alive and she was! Then I took off my pop tab and asked her to marry me! She caught her breath, and said yes! Then I swept her off her feet and refilled her halfway with some of my Lemon Liquid. Kids, that’s how I met your mother. That’s also why you need to be careful in life so your glass stays half full. Also so people see you as a positive pop can.
